Plant description: Peppermint (Mentha x piperita, from the Greek Mintha, nymph transformed into a plant by Persephone and piperita, similar to pepper) is a herbaceous plant of the Lamiaceae family. Of English origin, it is distributed throughout southern Europe and North Africa. It is a triple hybrid of water mint and Mentha spicata (= Mentha longifolia x Mentha rotundifolia). Due to its richness in aromatic components, it has been cultivated artificially since the 17th century, when it was first obtained in a controlled manner in England.
Traditional medicine: An infusion of mint is traditionally recommended for any digestive problem where spasmodic pain, gas or dyspepsia predominate; also for nausea and vomiting and in cases of insomnia. It is used to relieve headaches with the external application of a few drops of the essential oil on the temple, forehead and neck.
Applications: Dyspepsia and associated symptoms such as aerophagia, abdominal spasm and feeling of gastric fullness. Respiratory tract disorders associated with an accumulation of bronchial secretions, such as the common cold, dry cough, bronchitis. Nausea, Vomiting, Dizziness, Acute gastritis and diarrhea Respiratory infections Arthritis, musculoskeletal pain and headache Insect bites Properties: Aphrodisiac (in large doses) Aperitif and Eupeptic (promotes digestion) Local analgesic and Anti-inflammatory Antiseptic and antimicrobial Antispasmodic Nasopharyngeal decongestant, mucolytic , antitussive and expectorant Digestive and Carminative Cardiac tonic
Energetic action and Chakras: Calms explosive and irritable temperaments and excess emotions. It acts on the left side of the brain, stimulates the analytical sense and helps to keep a cool head. Neck and third eye chakra.
Precautions: Avoid using it in children under 4 years of age, unless it is because the fingers are stuck and they are in a lot of pain (use locally 1 time), during pregnancy only via olfactory route.
